Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (Reprise RS 6349, 1969), is such a bedrock Neil Young w/ Crazy Horse album I did not need to relisten to it for the purpose of writing this short article, but of course did so anyway to enjoy this early Niel Young treasure. Although Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere is over 50 years old, it holds up very well due to the quality of the songs, musicianship, and being well engineered. “Cinnamon Girl”, “Down by the River”, and “Cowgirl in the Sand” are the well-known songs, but each song is well written and delivered. There are no outliers in this collection; each song complements the previous and next song in style and quality. If you can get an affordable clean pressing of Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, pick it up and be prepare for a pleasurable musical immersion.
I saw Neil Young live in the mid-70’s in an acoustically well-designed venue and the listening experience was superb. I vividly remembering the show opening in the silent dark, then a few bars into the opening song a soft spotlight lit Neil on a raised platform lying on his back with a dreamy look on his face performing an acoustic solo of “Cinnamon Girl”. He finishes the song while lying on the platform and you could hear a pin drop … pandemonium from the audience. He came down to the main stage joined by Crazy Horse for the remainder of the show. What an opening! That concert remains one of my all-time favorites.

If you like Niel Young, there will be many Neil Young releases available at the next Love the Music Record Show this Sunday (4/23).
Happy Listening!
